The Chapter to invest Rs 850-Cr in luxury villas

0
Dhimaan Shah, founder and co-CEO of Isprava Group

The Chapter, a luxury holiday home developer backed by Nadir Godrej, Anand Piramal, and the Burman family from Dabur India, plans to invest over Rs 850 crore in developing luxury villas at key leisure spots across India, according to top executives.

As part of its strategic growth plan, the company, part of the Isprava Group, has already acquired over 100 acres in four prime locations—Goa, Alibaug, Karjat, and Kasauli—with an initial investment of Rs 450 crore.

The demand continues to be robust as more buyers. Specifically, our customers, including industrialists, CXOs, and investment bankers, are seeking larger and private spaces,” said Dhimaan Shah, founder and co-CEO of Isprava Group. “We are responding to this trend by increasing our focus on villa projects in key markets. Isprava and The Chapter are investing to meet this demand and plan for steady growth in this segment.

One of The Chapter’s key upcoming projects includes the development of 27 branded luxury villas on 2.25 acres near the Moira River in Aldona, north Goa. This project, estimated at around Rs 100 crore, will be the company’s third in Goa after selling over 50 properties in the last 3-4 months.

“We are looking to address the untapped potential in the luxury property market in the most sought after non-urban location. Our research shows a clear demand for high-end, tech-savvy homes that offer a distinct lifestyle. We are aiming to provide a new perspective in the industry, granting our homeowners a level of creative control often lacking in the home buying and design process,” said Darshini Thanawala, Vice President, business growth and strategy, The Chapter.

To support its expansion across India, the group recently raised nearly Rs 200 crore in a funding round led by Symphony International Holdings, listed on the London Stock Exchange.

After partnering with this Asia Pacific-focused investment company, The Chapter doubled its portfolio within a year, responding to the growing demand for luxury villas. The group’s current portfolio includes 600 luxury villas under construction, with 200 already delivered.

Last year, The Chapter acquired land 21 km from the Manohar International Airport in Mopa and 6 km from Assagao, raising its total investment in land in Goa to over Rs 100 crore. Recently, the company also acquired two adjacent land parcels covering 5 acres near Aldona, with plans to begin work on a separate project there soon.

The demand for branded luxury villas in India is rising as more affluent buyers seek exclusive living spaces that combine luxury with personalized services. This growing interest in branded residences shows a shift in consumer preferences toward properties that offer comfort and privacy while aligning with their lifestyle aspirations.

As urban centers become more crowded, many high-net-worth individuals seek spacious and peaceful environments, making branded luxury villas in prime non-urban locations increasingly attractive.

This surge in demand is drawing significant investment into the segment, with both domestic and international developers recognizing the lucrative opportunities.

Mastering the Art of Customer Experience: Karanveer Anand’s vision for elevating Software Reliability

0

In the rapidly evolving field of software reliability, customer experience stands as a critical measure of success. Karanveer Anand, a distinguished technical program manager with over 8 years of experience, believes that the future of customer experience modeling lies at the intersection of innovation and efficiency. Having worked with industry giants like Google and Nutanix, Anand has consistently leveraged his expertise in technical program management to enhance software reliability, ultimately elevating the customer experience. Through his impactful work, he has become a role model for the next generation of leaders in the field, demonstrating how large-scale programs can be designed and executed to prioritize and improve customer satisfaction. In this exclusive interview, Anand shares his insights on the importance of customer experience and the role of technical program management in shaping its future.

Q1: You mentioned that the future of customer experience modeling lies at the intersection of innovation and efficiency. How can technical program management balance these two to improve customer experience?

A technical program manager ensures that innovation aligns with business goals and customer needs by setting clear objectives. They establish specific metrics to measure the success of innovation and efficiency. By identifying potential risks in new technologies or processes, they create strategies to minimize disruptions. This proactive approach helps maintain service levels, effectively balancing innovation and efficiency for a better customer experience.

Q2: How do you ensure that software reliability improvements directly enhance the customer experience? Could you give an example where this approach made a significant impact?

Setting clear reliability metrics and gathering customer feedback is essential. By updating our approach based on this feedback, we ensure improvements. At Nutanix, I focused on enhancing the cloud upgrade process’s reliability. I collected feedback on upgrade issues and worked with the team to adopt a backward-compatible approach. This effort resolved upgrade problems for enterprise customers, resulting in overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Q3. The launch of Google Workspace Sovereignty controls was a significant milestone in your career. What challenges did you face, and how did technical program management help you overcome them?

This project involved key Google Workspace services like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, and Calendar, all under a tight deadline. The technical complexity and limited timeframe required a clear scope and careful handling of exceptions. Additionally, the project depended on other Google teams with different priorities, making delivery challenging. However, with strong leadership support and strategic resource allocation, we successfully met all deliverables.

Q4. As data sovereignty becomes more important, how do you see this trend shaping customer experience and software reliability? How can companies meet compliance requirements while ensuring reliable service?

Service reliability depends on compliance. For a product to be reliable, it must meet compliance standards that address specific customer needs and adhere to local regulations. This ensures the product meets legal obligations, building trust and dependability. With our growing reliance on data and technology, interest in this area has surged. The field is evolving rapidly, with new developments emerging constantly.

Q5. You improved the cloud upgrade experience at Nutanix. What key factors did you focus on to boost both reliability and customer satisfaction?

I made sure we addressed the right issues by prioritizing recent customer failure data and feedback. This approach ensured we tackled the real technical challenges, leading to better reliability and customer satisfaction. After resolving the problem, I confirmed the positive impact by reviewing the data, which validated our efforts over the past year.

Q6. You stress the importance of measuring problem statements, progress, and results. How do you approach these measurements in program management, and how do they contribute to your projects’ success?

John Doer’s book *Measure What Matters* highlights the importance of tracking progress in problem-solving. Without measurement, finding effective solutions is difficult. This method provides a clear action plan, outlining steps and strategies for delivery. By applying this approach, we improve the reliability of our software infrastructure.

Q7. As a thought leader in program management, how do you see AI transforming the field? What AI advancements have you used, and how have they impacted your approach to managing large-scale programs?

AI is revolutionizing program management by reducing administrative tasks, boosting efficiency, and helping us predict and mitigate risks. These advancements are crucial for both personal and organizational success, enabling us to leverage AI’s capabilities to enhance program management.

Q8. As a fellow of the Association of Project Management (APM), you mentor teams worldwide. What common challenges do you see in the industry, and how do you guide others to overcome them?

One major challenge is adapting to evolving management methodologies. To stay ahead, we must embrace vulnerability and continuously learn new technologies. This approach enhances our management frameworks, creating new opportunities and improving efficiency.

Q9. How does this recognition reflect your journey and contributions to the field? What message do you want to convey to the next generation of technical program managers?

Recognition is important but not guaranteed. Loving your work and ensuring business success is key. Recognition motivates us to strive for more. Program management is about learning the art of recognition and acknowledging the dependencies on others to reach the finish line. Mastering this skill is essential for program managers.

Q10. What trends do you see in technical program management, especially regarding customer experience and software reliability? How should organizations prepare for these changes?

As technology becomes more integral to daily life, the reliability of software is critical. Any outage can have significant impacts. I foresee software reliability becoming a highly sought-after field, with program management for reliability gaining more importance in the coming years.

SaaS unicorn Browserstack acquires Berlin-based startup Bird Eats Bug

0
Ritesh Arora and Nakul Aggarwal, co-founders, BrowserStack

Browserstack, a mobile and web software testing platform backed by Accel, has acquired Bird Eats Bug, a bug-reporting startup based in Berlin, for $20 million. Browserstack, which was valued at $4 billion during its last fundraising in 2021, stands as one of India’s most highly valued software product startups.

“BrowserStack has acquired Bird Eats Bug and committed a total of $20 million to the deal…. The investment includes upfront cash, stock, and future investment for product development,” the company said in a statement.

Founded by IIT Bombay alumni Ritesh Arora and Nakul Aggarwal, Browserstack operates from San Francisco and Mumbai. The platform enables companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia, and X to test their software on the cloud. This acquisition marks Browserstack’s fifth.

Profitable since its early days, the startup has emphasized that mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have been central to its growth strategy. With $250 million in cash reserves, the company plans to pursue more deals in the upcoming quarters to support organic and inorganic investments.

“While focusing on the testing space, Browserstack is also exploring adjacent areas to expand its total addressable market (TAM). Browserstack aims to create an end-to-end testing platform that will not only drive growth but also consolidate its position in the software testing market,” the company said in a statement, adding that it invests about $30 million in product research and development (R&D) every year.

Bird Eats Bug offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool that enables even non-technical users to create detailed bug reports. Browserstack highlights inefficiencies in the current bug-reporting processes within the software development industry and aims to address them.

In addition to acquiring Bird Eats Bug, Browserstack has launched a manual testing tool called Bug Capture. This tool reportedly helps users debug issues 30% faster on average.

“This acquisition marks a significant step towards our goal of providing developer and QA (quality assurance) teams with a unified, seamless testing experience,” said Ritesh Arora, cofounder and CEO of Browserstack.

“By integrating Bug Capture’s innovative approach to bug reporting into our platform, we’re not just streamlining workflows; we’re boosting the productivity of development teams so they can focus more on building great products and less on managing the intricacies of the testing process,” he added.

Since its founding in 2011, Browserstack operated as a bootstrapped company for its first seven years. It has since raised over $250 million, including a $200 million round in 2021 led by Mary Meeker’s Bond Capital, which valued the company at $4 billion.

Deeptech startup DeepMatrix secured $1.6 million in a funding round led by YourNest and Arali Ventures.

Angel investors like Abhishek Goyal, founder of data intelligence platform Tracxn, also participated in the round.

The startup plans to use the funds to accelerate growth, enhance its mining and asset management products, and expand into key markets like the US and Australia.

“The round marks a significant landmark in Indian geospatial deeptech and will lay the foundation of utilizing the full potential of geospatial data using advanced AI and compute capabilities,” said chief executive Naresh Soni.

Founded in 2022, DeepMatrix helps businesses manage geospatial data more efficiently, reducing costs, improving safety, and optimizing resource management.

“We have experienced good traction in the Indian market and are looking to work with enterprises and governments in developed markets like the US, Australia, Europe, etc,” Soni added.

The platform claims it has already saved businesses thousands of hours by speeding up the analysis of large geospatial datasets.

Commenting on the investment, Vivek Mansingh, general partner at YourNest, said, “DeepMatrix is a natural fit with YourNest’s thesis of investing in deeptech enterprises that can build IP with innovative solutions to address multiple customer requirements.”

“Technology advancements in satellite, geospatial, drone and point cloud solutions are unleashing significant amounts of data and provide opportunities for enterprises to make insightful decisions, however the software stack with the enterprises has not evolved as much. The DeepMatrix platform enables enterprises to leverage all kinds of geospatial data, get significant insights, make their processes more efficient and unlock tremendous value in a short period of time,” said Arun Raghavan, managing partner at Arali Ventures.
