Travel technology platform MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based shared mobility startup Quick Ride, marking its entry into the ride pooling segment. The acquisition will strengthen MakeMyTrip’s ground transportation portfolio and expand its presence in the daily urban commuting market.

Founded in 2015 by KNM Rao, Quick Ride operates an asset-light mobility platform that connects commuters travelling along similar routes for car and bike pooling. The platform enables users to share rides for everyday journeys while also serving corporate employees through partnerships with companies, IT parks, and business campuses. Its business model focuses on making daily commuting more affordable while reducing the number of vehicles on roads.

According to MakeMyTrip, the company has completed an internal restructuring of Quick Ride’s ride pooling business and brand, transferring them to a newly established entity, Co Ride Mobility Private Limited. MakeMyTrip has acquired the brand and ride pooling operations through a majority stake in the new entity. Meanwhile, Quick Ride’s promoters will continue to lead the business, while its former EV taxi operations will remain with the predecessor entity, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited.

Commenting on the development, Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, said the acquisition would help the company establish a presence in high-frequency daily urban commutes while complementing its intercity travel offerings. He added that Quick Ride would become part of MakeMyTrip’s ground transport business, which will draw on its experience of building redBus across India and international markets to scale the platform.

Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus and Head of Ground Transport at MakeMyTrip, said the acquisition would broaden the company’s offerings across different travel requirements. He highlighted the opportunity to serve customers across their daily office commutes as well as intercity journeys.

Quick Ride has previously secured investments from prominent investors, including Sequoia Capital India (now Peak XV Partners), Naspers (now part of Prosus), and Venture Highway. In 2019, the startup raised Rs 100.78 crore ($14.4 million) in a Series B funding round led by its existing investors.

The acquisition aligns with MakeMyTrip’s broader strategy of expanding across travel segments through strategic investments and acquisitions. In recent years, the company has acquired Savaari in the car rental segment, Happay in corporate travel and expense management, and Flamingo Transworld in regional group holiday packages. Additionally, it has made a strategic minority investment in visa processing platform Atlys.

With the latest acquisition, MakeMyTrip adds ride pooling to its ground transportation portfolio, which already includes redBus and Savaari. The move will enable the company to offer a broader range of mobility solutions, covering everyday urban commutes and intercity travel.
