Deep-tech startup Vimag Labs expands manufacturing footprint in India

Accel-backed deep-tech startup Vimag Labs has commenced production at its first manufacturing facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, and plans to invest Rs 50 crore in phases to expand its manufacturing capacity.

The company manufactures and assembles motors, control systems, and related propulsion systems. It has already completed and exported its first production batch from the Jhajjar facility, marking the beginning of its manufacturing expansion in India.

Vimag Labs plans to invest approximately Rs 50 crore across its phased manufacturing expansion. Initially, the company will focus on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes. As customer programmes mature, it also plans to expand into high-power systems of 570 kW and above while strengthening partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling, and industrialisation.

“Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes. As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling, and industrialisation,” said Manish Seth, co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs.

Meanwhile, the company said its total investment will evolve based on market traction and expansion opportunities. Its manufacturing network is designed to scale up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as customer volumes increase.

The Jhajjar facility currently spans 10,000 sq ft, with the potential to expand to approximately 20,000 sq ft. In the initial phase, Vimag Labs will prioritise industrialisation, process validation, and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems.

Through this expansion, the company aims to establish a flexible, India-based manufacturing base that can scale with customer demand and support both domestic and global programmes.

Furthermore, Vimag Labs expects its manufacturing expansion to generate approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain, and operations. The company also plans to make local recruitment an important part of its workforce expansion.

Recently, Vimag Labs raised USD 5 million in a Series A funding round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. The latest manufacturing development marks another step in the startup’s efforts to strengthen its production capabilities and scale its motor and control systems business in India.
