Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that enables users to build software projects by deploying multiple AI agents across parallel workspaces. The acquisition marks another step in Meta’s efforts to strengthen its artificial intelligence capabilities and expand its presence in the AI-powered software development market.
Axios first reported the acquisition, which Conductor subsequently confirmed through an announcement on its official blog.
“I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta,” wrote Charlie Holtz, the startup’s founder and CEO. He also hinted at the company’s future plans, stating, “We have some big, crazy plans for the next interface.” Additionally, he indicated that customers could expect “something new” by “early next year.”
In a post on X, Holtz expressed enthusiasm about working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company’s Superintelligence Labs. “They’ve been on an absolute tear, and I’m convinced MSL has the highest talent density of all the labs,” he added.
Meanwhile, Meta confirmed the acquisition but declined to disclose further details about the transaction or its financial terms.
Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product only last summer. Its platform enables software engineers to deploy AI-powered agent teams across cloud environments, local systems, or mobile devices. These agents work simultaneously on separate, compartmentalised components of software projects, helping developers coordinate multiple tasks more efficiently.
Notably, Conductor does not develop its own AI agents. Instead, its platform integrates agents developed by leading AI research companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI.
However, the acquisition will bring some immediate changes for existing users. Holtz said Conductor’s core features would continue operating as before until early next year. However, the company will discontinue its cloud service on November 20 and begin deleting user data stored in the cloud thereafter.
The acquisition comes as Meta accelerates its efforts to strengthen its position in the competitive AI market. After previously lagging behind in AI services, the company has increased its investments in AI products, infrastructure, and talent over the past several months.
In August, Meta introduced Muse Code, its proprietary AI coding agent designed to work with large codebases. Furthermore, its recently launched Muse agents have gained considerable traction, with the company reporting more than 10 million users in the US within 40 days of launch.
Meta has also pursued several acquisitions to expand its AI ecosystem over the past year. These include Moltbook, an AI agent-based social networking platform that attracted widespread attention following its viral popularity.
With the Conductor acquisition, Meta is further strengthening its AI development capabilities while gaining access to technology focused on coordinating multiple AI agents. The move also signals the company’s growing interest in agentic AI systems that could reshape how developers build and manage software.
