Zappfresh raises Rs 30 cr funding to drive expansion

Online meat seller Zappfresh announced on Thursday that it secured Rs 30 crore from investors, including Ah! Ventures and HT Media, Unity SFB, and Heifer Impact, marking a significant milestone in Zappfresh’s growth trajectory.

The newly acquired funds will be utilized for acquisitions, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades in both the North and South markets.

Zappfresh intends to launch new product lines, expanding its offerings to include a variety of poultry, goat meat, seafood, and ready-to-eat items. 

Founder Deepanshu Manchanda emphasized the crucial support of investors in launching various strategic initiatives.

The Sustainability Accelerator Program 2023 made tremendous progress towards its goals, cultivating a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders. Indian Audit and Accounts Department Celebrates Audit Week in Mumbai by 12 Offices of the CAG Audit Community

Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD) offices have commemorated the third Audit Diwas with a weeklong series of events between November 16-22, 2023. Audit Diwas was marked by various activities like a blood donation camp, essay competition, poster making and slogan writing, heritage walk, and others. The staff of the IAAD participated in various activities, whereas the students of some of the colleges under the Mumbai University participated in essay competition entailing the theme CAG’s role in nation-building by ensuring accountability, transparency and good governance.

The concluding day of the Audit week was celebrated at the Regional Capacity Building and Knowledge Institute, BKC on 22 November 2023. The occasion was graced by all the HoDs, officers and about 600 staff of the IA&AD. The HoDs comprised Shri Guljari Lal, Shri C.M. Sane, Shri Sandip Roy, Ms. Tanuja Mittal, Shri K.P. Yadaw, Shri Abdul Rauf, Ms. Aastha Luthra, and Shri Shailesh Jakhotiya. The occasion was marked by lighting of the lamp by all the HoDs. This was followed by various cultural activities as well as deliberations on professional excellence of the audit community and their commitment to public service. Further, the winners of the various events were also felicitated.

The audit community made a solemn pledge to dedicate itself to the cause of accountability and good governance. While reaffirming the idea of auditors as facilitators of good governance, the audit community maintained that audit should not be viewed as a fault-finding agency. They have proved to be equal partners in implementation of various schemes and projects by pointing out deficiencies and suggesting recommendations for remedial action by the Governments. It is worth noting that the Ministry of Finance, for example, has made three amendments regarding three sections 10AA, 56(2) (vii b), and 142(2A) of the Income Tax Act accepting our recommendations regarding the performance review on Gems and Jewellery.

The Hon’ble President of India Inaugurated the 3rd Audit Diwas on 16th November 2023 at the office of the CAG of India, New Delhi. Audit Diwas 2023 is being celebrated to mark the history and heritage of the Supreme Audit Institution of India. This was followed by the 31st Accountants General Conference. The broad theme for the conference was ‘Driving Change 2030: Empowering Actions to Shape Our Future’. Under this, the CAG audit community deliberated on two sub-themes: Familiarization with the Strategic Plan of SAI India for the period 2023-30, and Digital Growth in SAI India and Way Forward.

Ambur Set to Transform into a Smart Metropolitan and Real Estate Hub with Major Infrastructural Developments

Ambur, a bustling town in the Tirupathur district of Tamil Nadu, is poised for significant societal and infrastructural advancements, promising exponential benefits for its current and future residents. 1. Elevated Corridor on NH 44:

An ambitious project with an estimated cost of Rs. 135 crore, the elevated corridor on National Highway 44 aims to create a 1450-meter-long and 11-meter-wide corridor between the Rajiv Gandhi statue and the ORR theatre. Additionally, 8-meter-wide service roads will be constructed to facilitate smooth traffic flow and alleviate congestion.

2. Proposed Airport:

Ambur is set to have its own airport at Abdullapuram, spanning 97 acres. The proposed airport will feature an 850-meter-long runway, taxiway, ground handling equipment, air traffic control (ATC), aviation information receiving facility, terminal building, and oil depot. This development is expected to benefit nearby localities such as Ambur, Arcot, Vaniyambadi, and Vellore.

3. Mega Footwear Manufacturing Park:

The government has announced a colossal 250-acre mega footwear manufacturing park, valued at Rs. 400 crore, to be established at Panapakkam in Ranipet. This project is anticipated to generate 20,000 jobs, with a particular focus on empowering women. It is also poised to elevate the districts overall export levels to a global standard.

These transformative projects are expected to trigger a cascade of infrastructural and societal developments within Ambur. Among the sectors poised for significant growth is real estate, as the town prepares for an influx of new residents. Large parcels of land are already being acquired by real estate developers, who are gearing up for extensive residential and commercial projects.

A recent study conducted by a reputable organization indicates that Tier-II and III cities, including Ambur, Mahabalipuram, Coimbatore, Trichy, and Mysuru, have garnered the attention of real estate developers. The focus is on setting up numerous plotted residential projects to accommodate the anticipated influx of newcomers. Prioritizing Childcare beyond G20 – Local to the Global Context

FORCES (Forum for Crches and Childcare Services), aiming to elevate childcare as a critical issue at local, national, and global levels within the discourse on womens empowerment, organized its 2nd consultative meeting titled Prioritizing Childcare beyond G20 (Local to the Global Context) today at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi.

Panel discussion on Public Financing, Provisioning and Decent Work in the Context of Childcare

As India took over the Presidency of G20 from Indonesia at the beginning of this year, FORCES took this opportunity to bring the attention of the G20 leaders to the vital need to prioritize substantial investment in childcare services. Since ‘women-led development‘ became the aspirational goalpost of the G20 Presidency, FORCES decided to amplify the importance of investment in the care economy as a road to women’s empowerment and for the larger goal of sustainable development.

The main objective of this meeting was to take stock of what has been accomplished and highlight the next possible steps that would be important for FORCES to take on in order to facilitate the process of highlighting investment in care economy as a necessary policy intervention for ensuring the economic development of marginalised women.

In the keynote address, Dr. Shamika Ravi, Member, Economic Advisory Council, PMO, said, “This is an opportune moment for India to develop a comprehensive childcare policy. The key to success lies in harnessing empirical knowledge, leveraging data effectively, and promoting the concept of childcare across various levels of government, think tanks, and among stakeholders. Collective ownership from policymakers and the government is paramount Its crucial to understand that addressing childcare transcends mere social responsibility; it is a vital strategy to combat the alarming rates of suicide mortality among homemakers in India.”

Ms. Chirashree Ghosh, Co-ordinator, FORCES said, A collective process is necessary to create pathways for addressing key issues in childcare. The consultation today has unlocked the doors for a strategic roadmap which will use evidence-based identification of major issues to inform policy advocacy at local, national, and global levels, and bridge knowledge gaps for multiple stakeholders. Moving forward we intend to foster new collaborations, cement existing ones and unite a wide array of stakeholders to advance solutions for the poor and the marginalised to the forefront of childcare discussions.”

Highlighting the Haryana Governments special efforts to support the SDGs, Ms. Amneet P. Kumar, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary of the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Haryana, shared that the state has established a separate structure for children under 3 years of age, recognizing it as a prerequisite for young children to thrive. She noted that merely extending the hours of Anganwadi centres and increasing their workload would not lead to better childhood outcomes. In this direction, the government has implemented a Creche policy, allocated a budget for it, and is aiming to collect evidence to improve child outcomes and enhance womens labor participation in the state.

The deliberations highlighted the need to emphasize childcare provisioning as a cornerstone for women-led development. It stressed the importance of recognizing womens unpaid care work and ensuring access to quality childcare to give women the opportunity to participate more fully in the workforce and in public life.

The issues regarding the provisioning of childcare services, both by the state and the private sector, were also discussed. The discourse included strategies for financing childcare services, highlighting the existing challenges in state provisioning and the potential for global and national collaborations to enhance support.

In the realm of private childcare services, exploring various models of private provisioning, unpacking strategies adopted globally, and understanding the associated opportunities and challenges were emphasized. Additionally, the discussions underscored the need for regulatory mechanisms to ensure standardized quality in childcare, particularly highlighting the states role in overseeing these services.

The policy recommendations and strategies of engagement from the deliberations will be taken with the state chapters of the FORCES to create a clear road map to ensure that childcare and the care economy become a priority focus area for tackling barriers to women’s economic empowerment.

It came into being in 1989 and since then had been working relentlessly to make childcare a policy priority.
