Krafton India invests in Bitkraft Ventures’ global fund to boost gaming and AI startups

Krafton India has announced a strategic investment in the global fund of US-based early-stage investor Bitkraft Ventures, reinforcing its commitment to supporting innovation across gaming, consumer AI, and emerging technology sectors. The South Korean gaming giant revealed the development on June 22 and stated that the investment builds on its longstanding relationship with Bitkraft Ventures, although the company did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.

Through this partnership, Krafton and Bitkraft Ventures will support early-stage founders developing the next generation of gaming, interactive media, consumer AI, and emerging technology platforms. Furthermore, the collaboration aims to provide startups with enhanced access to capital, industry expertise, and international business networks, enabling them to scale more efficiently and compete in global markets.

Commenting on the opportunity, Jens Hilgers, founding GP of Bitkraft, said, “India’s gaming and consumer AI ecosystem is at a thrilling inflection point, driven by exceptional talent, and is now starting to see exits for global investors as well. The market is ripe for disruption for global investors with unique local opportunities in early stages and growth opportunities.”

Krafton India stated that the investment will strengthen the growth prospects of Indian startups by providing access to global resources and strategic support. Additionally, the partnership will enable Krafton to identify and nurture promising startups at an early stage alongside a partner with extensive expertise in gaming, interactive entertainment, and technology investments.

Bitkraft Ventures invests in startups from the pre-seed to Series A stages and offers founders not only capital but also operational expertise and access to a global network of industry leaders. In India, the firm’s portfolio includes Lila Games, Airoclip, and GameRamp, highlighting its growing focus on the country’s rapidly evolving gaming and technology ecosystem.

Speaking about the potential of Indian entrepreneurs, Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, said, “What stands out about India today is not just the scale of the market but the quality of entrepreneurs emerging from it. We are seeing founders build with a global mindset from the outset, creating products and technologies that have the potential to resonate far beyond India.”

He further added, “Our partnership with Bitkraft Ventures reflects a shared conviction in this new generation of builders and our commitment to supporting them as they create the future of gaming and interactive entertainment.”

The partnership also reflects Bitkraft Ventures’ expanding focus on India. In December 2024, the firm appointed Anuj Tandon to establish and lead its India operations. Tandon brings more than 15 years of industry experience and previously worked at Krafton India, where he played a key role in building the company’s investment portfolio across video gaming, esports, and entertainment startups.

During his tenure at Krafton India, Tandon led investments exceeding $135 million in companies such as Nautilus Mobile, Lila Games, Kuku FM, Nodwin Gaming, Pratilipi, and FRND. His contributions also helped shape the company’s broader investment and market expansion strategies.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Anuj Tandon, Partner (Emerging Markets), said, “Indian founders are building for a global consumer in gaming and consumer AI from day one. Our global expertise aligned with Krafton validates the talent pipeline we see on the ground in India.”

He further added, “This partnership gives us the firepower to provide early-stage builders with the capital and cross-border expertise and validation to win.”

With more than $1 billion in assets under management across six funds, Bitkraft Ventures continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading investors in gaming, interactive media, and emerging technologies. Consequently, its partnership with Krafton India is aims to accelerate innovation, unlock new growth opportunities, and support the next wave of globally competitive startups emerging from India.
