Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, has joined forces with OpenAI to usher in a new era of augmented reality (AR) experiences. This collaboration, announced at Lens Fest, aims to empower developers by integrating ChatGPT into their AR Lenses, offering innovative and interactive opportunities for Snapchat users.
Snap is expanding its efforts with Lens Studio 5.0 Beta, an AR development tool designed to enhance the creation of compelling Lenses. This advancement includes the integration of the ChatGPT Remote API, granting Lens developers unprecedented access to ChatGPT’s capabilities.
This strategic move is expected to unlock immersive experiences, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of augmented reality, according to TOI. Notably, Snap’s My AI chatbot currently utilizes OpenAI’s GPT large language model, emphasizing the company’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for user engagement.
In line with Snap’s commitment to fostering creativity, they have introduced a 3D face mask generator, empowering users to create unique self-expression Lenses by combining Gen AI capabilities with Snap’s advanced face mesh features. This democratizes the lens creation process, allowing users to swiftly bring their creative visions to life.
Despite recent workforce reductions, Snap reveals that 330,000 developers are actively building on Snap’s AR platform, creating nearly 3.5 million Lenses. This highlights the dynamic ecosystem on Snap for AR enthusiasts and developers.
Snap’s dedication to AI was emphasized at the inaugural APAC AR Day in India, where CEO Evan Spiegel and Snap APAC President Ajit Mohan praised the Indian creator community for their impact on the AR landscape. Spiegel expressed optimism about AI’s role in breaking down barriers to creativity, particularly in augmented reality.
