Synergy-2023, the grand three-day techno-fest organized by SGT University, Gurugram, concluded with great gusto today with its valedictory ceremony. The event was graced by the esteemed Mr. Rajeev Juneja, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Mankind Pharma Ltd., as the chief guest, and Dr. Sudarshan Jain, Secretary-General of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), as the guest of honor.

Speaking on the occasion, Honorable Chief Guest, Shri Rajeev Juneja, said, “Everything starts with small steps. During my visit to the projects at Synergy, I was impressed by the enthusiasm and energy that the students were presenting with. Such positivity and passion are essential for success, no matter where you are.” He also praised the esteemed faculty and professors at SGTU, noting their efforts in helping students reach their full potential.

Synergy-2023 hosted over 25,000 students from over 200 schools in the Delhi-NCR region. The event showcased cutting-edge technological advancements, including a seam ripper machine, a spinometer, an electric bike, a “Kneehab brace for ACL recovery, a multifunctional agricultural machine, and a bionic eye. Students presented a total of 300 in-house projects spanning areas such as robotics, eco-friendly products, medical technology, media technology, and many more.

S.D. Memorial School Sec-11, Gurugram (Prism of Sustainable Development), Drona Public School, Gurugram (Envirobot), and Jawahar Navodya Vidyalay Jhajjar (Catfish for Preventing Malaria Transmission) claimed the top three prizes in the “School Projects category, receiving cash rewards of Rs. 15,000, 18,000, and 21,000, respectively. In a generous gesture, Mankind Pharma decided to award each of these three schools a sum of Rs. 1 lakh for their outstanding projects.

When it came to in-house innovation, the Faculty of Dental Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences stood out with remarkable creations in categories such as “Health & Wellbeing“, “Technology & Innovation“, and “Sustainable Research Development“.

Throughout the event, students had the opportunity to interact and network with peers, educators, and industry professionals. The event also featured captivating head-to-head competitions, including Nukkad Natak, which addressed contemporary social issues, and Robotics and Drone Competitions, where students showcased their innovations, much to the delight of the audience.

Eldercare startup Age Care Labs bags $11mn in funding

Age Care Labs, an eldercare platform, announced on Friday that it secured $11 million in funding. Rainmatter Capital, led by Nithin Kamath, and Gruhas, led by Nikhil Kamath, were the primary contributors in this pre-Series B round. 

Alok Oberoi, the executive chairman of Everstone Capital, Ajay Srinivasan, former CEO of Aditya Birla Capital, and Lumis Partners, a prior investor, participated.

Age Care Labs actively operates Emoha, offering elderly health services at home, such as emergency support and engagement services. In addition, they own Epoch Elder Care, which was co-founded by Neha Sinha and acquired in August 2021, providing specialized care homes for assisted living and dementia care. When combined, Emoha and Epoch form a comprehensive care solution for elderly individuals of all ages and health conditions.

The company intends to use the capital it has raised to expand its presence across India, make investments in product and technology enhancements aimed at improving the customer experience, and explore potential acquisition opportunities to achieve organic growth in the Indian market.

“The older population as a proportion of the population is going up, and it will go up much faster than it has in the last decade. There are very few businesses from the impact and capitalism standpoint that are building anything relevant here. We are bullish on anything being built in the sector and personally, I think there is a big need for it,” said Nikhil Kamath.

“170 million sons and daughters in India want the best for their parents at all ages; they want more safety, health, convenience and an active engaged life for their parents / guardians. While there are 42 million elders in urban India alone, this cohort is expected to grow 3x by 2050. Emoha and Epoch are committed to help all parents age magnificently through deep geriatric expertise,” said Saumyajit Roy, cofounder and chief executive, Emoha Elder Care.

Moreover, Gruhas, under Kamath’s leadership, is actively seeking investment opportunities in Abu Dhabi within the same sector. These investments are long-term expected to remain relevant for a decade.

“The prevalence of dementia in India has risen to about 7.4%, which means about 8.8 million people above the age of 60 are living with dementia. Above the age of 70, more than 50% people suffer from one or more chronic conditions. The need for specialized care for seniors becomes the top priority as healthcare spends and burden increase hand in hand with longevity,” Epoch founder and chief executive Sinha added.

G Square Launches Wheels of Hope Initiative, Plans to Distribute Over 1000 Motorized Wheelchairs

G Square, South India’s largest plot promoter recently announced the launch of the ‘G Square – Wheels of Hope’ Initiative, where it launched a website for differently abled people to enroll themselves in to avail motorized wheelchairs. The initiative which aims to distribute over 1000 motorized wheelchairs already witnessed the handover of these wheelchairs to over 100 differently abled individuals in its initial phase event that took place at G Square Dynasty in Mahabalipuram.

The motorized wheelchairs were distributed by the staff of G Square at the event, where a few of the selected recipients were also provided with employment opportunities. The recipients were initially selected after their registration on the website, who then underwent a screening test to get customized wheelchairs according each their physicality and percentage of disability.

The recipients were further trained on how to use the motorized wheelchairs by instructors and were allowed to practice on the G Square project site.
